Bhadra: The daughter of Suryanarayan.
Very few people must have heard the name of Bhadra. She was the daughter of Surya through his wife Chhaya. She is dark-complexioned, with long hair and big teeth. Overall she is not good looking. She was named Bhadra Vishti.
Right from her birth, she was a terror. She would go and burn the Yagyashala or go and spoil all the auspicious functions. She created chaos wherever she went. Surya was worried about her future. So he decided to get her married early. But no devta nor Asur wanted to marry her. Everyone was fed up with her activities. On people's complaints, Brahmaji goes to Surya to convey the complaints of people to Suryanarayan. After hearing out Brahma, Surya replies that it was Brahma who created this Universe.
Whilst knowing everything he( Brahma) should find a solution. Brahma then calls Vishti and advises her that from now on You reside at the end of Vav, Balav, Kaulav, etc types of Karan, and whoever travels, enters, farms does business and trade or any auspicious function in your time, you then terrorize them, create difficulties for them. For three days don't do anything. So on the fourth-day devtas and Asurs will definitely perform your Puja. If they don't obey you, you trouble them.
So this is Bhadra's story and why no such Karya(Auspicious work) is performed during Bhadra. It stays five ghadi in mouth and destroys your work. It stays for two ghadi in your throat and destroys your wealth. It stays eleven ghadi in your heart and destroys your life(death). It stays four ghadi in your navel and destroys peace. It stays five ghadi in your waist, it destroys finances. It stays three ghadi in your tail and gives you victory and helps complete your work. It has twelve names:- 1)Dhanya, 2)Dadhimukhi, 3)Bhadra, 4)Mahamari, 5)Kharanana, 6)Kaalratri, 7)Maharudra, 8)Vishti, 9)Kulputrika, 10)Bhairavi, 11)Mahakali and 12)Asuraksheyasi.
Therefore it is essential to keep in mind that if you are about to set out for a new venture always inquire about Bhadra nakshatra. If it is Bhadra, keep fast, pray after the ritual bath. Perform Tarpan to your Pitra and follow it up with Yagya and donate iron things and food grains to Brahmin Repeat this for seventeen Bhadra's.
