History of Saint Ravidas and Chamar Dynasty.

The saint who accepted the menial job, for his entire life, but did not accept Islam. He is none other than, great social reformer Sant Ravidas Ji.

There was a saying by Sant Ravidas Ji," By knowing Vedic Dharma, the most unique truth, why shall I read a lie (Quran)” Our country has been blessed to be the land where many great saints, appeared over the centuries. This is the sole reason that our country is known as Vishva Guru.

On this great land of Bharatvarsha, many great saints have sacrificed their lives for the protection and propagation of dharma. Many saints eradicated the misconceptions and misinterpretations that were spread by people of bad intent. By their endeavor, the rich culture survived, otherwise it would have been extinct. Walking on the path of truth with their devotional spirit these Saints have kept this country united.

The community whom we call Chamar today, are the descendants of Kshatriya kings of the Chamar Dynasty. Vijay Sonkar Ji a great historian has written a book "Hindu Charmkar Jati" on the history of this great dynasty. Besides Vijay Sonkar Ji there are many writers who have mentioned about chamar community in their books and journals. Even in the Mahabharata, the description of the Kings of Chamar Dynasty is mentioned. Before Sikandar Lodhi's invasion, no word as "Chamaar" was used anywhere in our Indian civilization and academia. In ancient India, the society was based on varna, which is the division of labor according to their profession and merit, not on the basis of their birth.

After Sikandar Lodi invaded India and established his empire. He was very much surprised by Sant Ravidas Ji and his widespread influence; Sikandar Lodhi saw how Saint Ravidas Ji was protecting Vedic dharma, he along with his disciples were reluctant in accepting Islam. Therefore, Sikandar Lodi was the first to take Ravidas Ji into custody and after that, Sikandar Lodi said to Ravidas Ji, "accept xlam otherwise I will k!ll you”, hearing this, Ravidas Ji told Sikandar Lodi, if you chop off my arms and cut my body into pieces, even then also I will not accept xlam; I can never abandon the Vedas.

After listening to this, Sikandar Lodi tortured Ravidas Ji in prison, Ravidas Ji was forced to strip off the skin of dead animals, and then from the same skin he was forced to make shoes, he was made to do abominable and dirty works, but still, he chose to do menial jobs than accepting xlam. Sikandar Lodi knew well that if Ravidas Ji adopted Islam, his followers and disciples would also adopt xlam but Ravidas Ji never accepted it. The disciples of Sant Ravidas Ji surrounded, Sikandar Lodi's fort and forced him to free Sant Ravi Das, but after some time Ravidas Ji died.

After passing away of a great saint, his disciples were forced to do all disgusting things; After taking off the skins of animals, they made shoes from them, they even cleaned the toilets and stool, these people accepted lowly tasks but never accepted xlam on any condition. Just like their Guru even after experiencing so many problems and hardships they never accepted xlam. Over time, this false propaganda of hating the descendants of Ravidas was spread by the Muslims, and even Hindus got caught by this propaganda. Hindus started mistreating the Chamar class as untouchables.

Even after being discriminated against by their own Hindu brethren, they did not confess to xlam, they have been associated with Hindu civilization till date, if today we are following dharmic traditions, then somewhere all these people, have a special contribution. If we worship our ancestors, then we should also worship these Maharishis and Saints along with all our ancestors, who did not accept xlam at any cost, if they would have slipped away at that time and would have accepted xlam, today there would have been a large xlamic population in India and maybe India would have become an Islamic nation, therefore to respect his follower and his community would be a true and an honest offering from our end.

Saint Ravidas Ji had sacrificed his life while protecting Vedic dharma. Today, people of our own religion have made this great saint Ravidas Ji’s community untouchable. It is a matter of shame if we are all trapped in castes politics, Then the day is not far away when our country will become a slave again.

Friends, if we still do not get out of this racism, then our country will break into pieces. Therefore, we must not treat them as untouchables and discriminate against them, they are our brothers, their ancestors have fought for protecting the Vedic dharma. In the Mughal period, many Hindus were forcefully converted to xlam, also many converted willingly to escape caste discrimination, which is an ill practice, that penetrated into our practice in the medieval period. But even after facing such hardship and problems, Sant Ravidas and the Chamar dynasty did not abandon the Vedic dharma.

It is a matter of great shame for us that today we consider them as untouchables and keep them away as an outcast. Let’s inform and educate our parents, friends, relatives, and neighbor about this fact, and eradicate such evil practices of caste and untouchability from our society. Always remember united we stand divided we fall.
