Importance of Dhanteras Deepawali, Bhai Dooj, and Govardhan Pooja as per our Puranas.

The month of Kartik is very auspicious. Deepdaan or lighting of lamps during the full month of Karthik is deemed to make one prosperous and happy. Offerings of Malti flower along with Sandalwood, Camphor, Saffron, Kevda makes Bhagwan Vishnu very happy. As per Padma Puran the five main things that we should offer to Vishnu are lotus flower, tulsi leaves, malti, Agastya flowers, and deep daan. All the above offerings in Kartik month help you attain swarg. Deepdaan helps our ancestors or pittra to attain Moksha. So if Deepdaan is so auspicious for Kartik, the Deepdaan on the five sacred days of this month will give you more than the desired results.

Donating ghee, milk, and curd is considered a good omen. Since it is the day of Lakshmi, so naturally the puja begins by invoking Lakshmi. Decorate your house with lamps and perform ritualistic Lakshmi puja. Everyone is aware of these rituals.

गोवर्धन धराधार गोकुलत्राणकारक। विष्णुबाहुकृतोच्छ्राय गवां कोटिप्रदो संस्थिता॥

Meaning:-

On Kartik Dwitiya or Bhai duj, worship of Yam devta was prevalent. In ancient days Yamuna had welcomed her brother Yamraj and fed him with her hands. It was a grand Utsav.

Those who celebrate this day get release from torturous journey to Yamlok. This day is known as Yam Dwitiya. People should visit their sisters and cherish food made from her hands which is blessed with strength and nourishment. Sisters should be given gifts in return as per your ability. If the sister is married the benefit is more of Punya one attains.
