Importance of Surya Dev and his birth from Dev Mata Aditi's womb.
We take so many things for granted for example the rays of the sun. Just imagine what would be our living condition if there would be no Sun. We would not survive.
Every sphere of our life is linked to Suryadev right from calculation of time, rain, food, health, seasons and in general directly or indirectly all the vital means of our existence are directly or indirectly linked to Sun.Our scriptures have one thousand names for it like Mihir, Martand, Prabhakar, Aditya etc.
So also every Hindu month has a different name for Surya. In Chaitra it is known as Vishnu, Vaishakh it is named Aryama, Jyeshtha it is Vivasvaan, Ashaadh it is Anshuman, Shravan it is Parjanya, Bhadrapad it is Varun, Ashwin it is called Indra, Kartik it is Dhaata, Aghan it is Mitra, Poush it is Pusha, Magh it is called Bhag and Falgun it is named Twashta. Singing Strotras in Surya's praise not only keeps you healthy, it makes you wealthy and gives you fame. All types of tensions and worries are destroyed.
Once the Rishi's asked Brahma that how did such radiant and powerful entity take birth and from which woman's womb. So Brahma narrated the story about Surya's birth. Prajapati Daksh had sixty daughters. Out of these thirteen daughters were married to Rishi Kashyap. Aditi was one of them. Aditi gave birth to devtas. Rest all the daughters children were spread all over as common people.
Devtas were entitled to consume a great part of Yagya offerings. But the Daityas and demons forever kept enmity with the devtas and would always harass them. Aditi realized that the demons would finish off her sons. So she started performing Tapasya for a strong son to ensure her other sons victory. She prayed to Bhagwan Bhaskar and followed strict self discipline.
She would praise Bhagwan Bhaskar and keep reminding him his strength and power. She followed this routine for many days. So a satisfied Bhaskar appeared before her and gave a glimpse of his emitting radiance. So she replied that in this state she was unable to have his proper darshan. She requests him to be more benevolent to her sons and to let her sons become his bhakts.
o Suryadev asks her as to what boon she wants. So she requests him to be born as her son not with such great radiance and sheen but in a lesser degree. So Suryadev assures her and disappears.
Her boon was fulfilled. When Aditi became pregnant, she took more time for fasting and praying. Once Kashyap Muni scolded her for doing such strict Tapasya and asked whether did she intend to kill the child. So in anger Aditi told him that see this womb has your son whom I did not Kill. She delivered the baby there and then.
The baby was shining like the morning rising son with rays emitting from all sides. That time an Akashvani spoke to Kashyap that you told your wife a few moments back that
त्वया मारितम् अंडम्(You killed my child in the womb) so he would be known as Martand the world over.
He will be the destroyer of all enemies.
Later, in the war that followed between devtas and demons Suryadev just glared at the demons who turned to ashes at that very moment. This was the moment that devtas were waiting for.
So Suryadev fulfilled his promise to Aditi about protecting her sons.
