Srivilliputhur Temple, Tamil Nadu (Temple_Story)

This is the birthplace of Andal and considered to be among the holiest of the 108 Divya Desams. This is also the birthplace of Periyazhvaar (Andal's father). Andal’s Thiruppavai is one of the most beautifully composed songs.

Legend...

The Town was built by two hunters Villi and Puttan and hence the name Villiputhur. Periyazhvaar, a great scholar was an ardent devotee of Maha Vishnu. He will make beautiful garlands for Maha Vishnu daily. One day, while he was collecting flowers for the Swamy, he found a small girl lying in the garden. Periyazhvaar named her Andal and brought her up as his own daughter.

Andal's Thiruppavai Andal’s Thiruppavai is one of the most beautifully composed songs.

among Divya Prabhandham. Singing these 30 verses will bring peace and prosperity. It was in the month of Maargazhi (mid-December to mid-January)Andal composed Thiruppavai at the age of five.

One day, Periyalwar saw that the Garland which should be around the Bhagwan is worn by Andal. On seeing this, Periyalwar got angry at her and warned her not to repeat the same ever after.

On that day, in the dream of Periyalwar, Maha Vishnu asked him not to get angry at the action performed by Andal and added that from the next day onwards Garland should be worn first by Andal and then only dedicated to him. He also asked Periyalwar to come along with Andal to Srirangam. Thus, Periyalwar along with Andal went to Srirangam.

Thus Ranganathar acquired Andal and gave the father-in-law position to Periyalwar.
