The darshan of balmukund by rishi MARKANDEYA during destruction / pralay:-
The Universe was about to be destroyed. Sun, Moon, Vaayu, Flora, and fauna were in the process of destruction.
The Sun shone with the brightest of its light. The winds blew with loud roaring sounds, uprooting trees, and mountains. The fierce lightning burnt everything in its path. The sunlight was so fierce that it reached Rasatal. The devtas, demons, and the yakshas too were afraid. The fierce bright rays of the Sun burnt even the Naaglok. Everyone was running helter-skelter. Markandeya Rishi had been meditating and was unaware of this happening. But suddenly he too experienced the heat emanating from all around.
This was the powerful Sanvartak Agni capable of burning everything. Markandeya ran to escape. He wanted to take shelter with Sanatan Dev Purushesh. Ultimately he reached the divine Banyan tree, a symbol of Purushesh, all the while meditating to Dev. He sat under the tree on its roots. He felt relieved as no heat dared to reach here. But suddenly with a loud roaring, the skies opened up. Now incessant rain was pouring like a mighty roaring river. Everything started getting submerged in water. Prabhu was now taking rest in Kshirsagar. The Rishi sat in meditation. But he also was swept away by the water of the huge Ocean all around. He started swimming, chanting prayers, and calling the Parmatma to help him. Suddenly he heard a voice calling out to him to come near him and not to be afraid. The Rishi was awestruck. He thought that maybe he was hallucinating. As soon he swam towards the surface, he saw the same Banyan tree. Then he saw a bed on it. And next, he noticed the Parmatma in his Bal Mukund form sleeping on it.
There was a glow around his sleeping form. He was dressed up in all his finery. At first, the rishi thought that this child had escaped the Pralay and needed to be rescued. But the glow was so fierce that rishi was unable to look longer at it. Suddenly the Rishi heard the child beckoning him and urging him to enter its mouth. The Rishi obeyed the divine voice. Now the Rishi was bewildered inside. What he witnessed was just amazing. The whole Universe was inside the mouth. Devtas, Yaksha's, mountains, rivers all were present inside including all the seven loks. There was no beginning or end inside. After he had witnessed everything, he experienced that now he was being sucked away by the witnessed immense wind. He was now outside the mouth.
The Rishi now realized that what he had noticed was the Bal Mukund form of Vishnu and he had withnessed the divine being. Then he heard the same voice urging him to look at the Child in the Parmatma. As soon he glanced in its eyes, his eyes also attained divinity. Now the Rishi stood in obeisance and started praising the Paramatma in many words. Then Parmatma gave him a divine sermon explaining his Swarup. He asked the Rishi as to what did he wish for. He was the Parmatma and he was the Supreme soul who controlled everything. He was VISHNU, Shiva, and Brahma. He was the Prajapati, Eyes, Nose. In short, he was everything. He said he was known as Narayan since in ancient times the water was called a Nara. He resided(Ayan) on the water, so he is known as Narayan. He was the creator, protector, and destructor of all things. Markandeya then told him that he wanted to build a Shiv mandir in this Purushotam Kshetra so that once for all this myth would be quelled that both Vishnu and Shiva are different entities.
Prabhu granted him this boon so as to dispel all the myths and doubts about Vishnu and Shiva being two separate entities. The Shiv mandir will have the name of Markandeshwar and this Tirth will be named Markandeyahrid. After saying this Bal Mukund disappeared.
