The Importance of RAM SETU / Rameshwar Kshetra and its construction.
Everyone knows about the Jyotirling of Rameshwaram but nearby Sethu tirth is considered to be equally important. Once, all the important Rishi Muni's organised a Yagya in Naimishyaranya.
They were all pure souls who found no fault with anyone. With Yagya they also discussed and narrated instances and stories narrated to Dharma. The learned son of Vyas, Suutji also happened to come there. So all the Rishi's gathered and asked him to tell them which one place was capable of providing them mukti.
So Suutji replied that there is one place on this earth which has this capability and that wchichu was built in the presence o Prabhu Ram in Rameshwar. That is known as Setu tirth. This tirth is so powerful that it can destroy your sins of Brahmhatya, robbery all types of bad deeds. Just bathing in its pure water destroys all your evil. It fulfills all your desires. It gives you the result of Ashvamedh Yagya.
Everyone is aware that Prabhu Ram stayed in Dandkaranya with his wife and brother after leaving Ayodhya. It was Maarich who disguises as a golden deer to lure Ram away from their hut. He is successful and as a result Ravana abducts Sita and takes her to Lanka. In search of Sita Prabhu meets Hanuman and Sugriv and forges an everlasting friendship. After Killing Bali and after Sugriv ascends the throne of Kishkindha, after a gentle reminder they are ready to proceed with Ram and Laxman towards Lanka with the army of Vaanars and bears.
They set out on this important task in abhijit muhurat and reach Mahendra Parvat. They also take a dip in nearby Chakratirth. Here they met Vibhishan the brother of Ravana and an avid Ram bhakt. He first was thought to be a spy but after ascertaining his motives.
Prabhu annoints him as the future King of Lanka. All are worried about crossing the vast ocean. Sugriv suggests to travel across the Ocean in boats. But Prabhu rejects this saying that it would alert the enemies.
But have no clue as to how to cross this vastness. So Vibhishan suggests that since Sagar had dug the trenches for this ocean Prabhu should request Samudra to give way to them. So Prabhu sits on the shore and continuously prays for three days. But ocean does not relent.
So Shri Ram in anger readies his bow and arrow to dry the whole Ocean. Frightened Samudra devta comes forward and apologises and himself suggests that Nal and Neel have the capacity to build things due to boon granted by Vishwakarma.
Samudra would help them by not letting anything that is thrown on it to sink inside. So the bridge of rocks and twigs is made there. This place today is Known as Darbhashayan. Apart from this there are many other tirth in the vicinity related to Ramkatha.
Some of them are Chakratirth, Vetal tirth, Brahmkund, Koti tirth and Dhanushkoti.
