ॐ - The significance of Aum and why we should chant it.

Aum is the most Important sound in Hinduism, it is so important that religions branching out of Sanatana Dharma like Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism use it too.

Aum is Brahman, Aum is the primordial sound of the universe, everything is pervaded by Aum, everything that is past present and future, yet Aum is beyond time, timeless entity.

Let’s see what scriptures say about Aum-

Katha Upanishad says –

All Vedas beautifully describes it, all Tapas(Penance*) are done to obtain it, desiring it we follow Brahmacharya, that word is “AUM(ॐ)” only, a this be being done for Aum

Because-

Aum is indestructible Brahman, it is above everything, one who knows Aum achieves whatever he desires.

Mandukya Upnishad says –

Aum is imperishable, everything-  Past, present, and future is Aum only, and what is beyond restrictions of time is also Aum.

What are the benefits of Meditating on Aum?

One who meditates on one part of Aum rises on a physical level, he becomes worthy of Rig Mantras, attains Shraddha, Brahmcharya, and Tapas.

One who meditates on two parts of Aum rises on a mental level, he becomes worthy of YajuH mantras, his mind, during meditation he experiences the eternal bliss but it ends as soon as meditation ends

One who meditates on all 3 parts of Aum rises on a spiritual level, he directly observes all-pervading Brahman, and thus he gets liberated he experiences the eternal bliss of Aum permanently, he is worthy of all knowledge, and all his ignorance is destroyed.

Without Meditation on Aum all this is not possible, may a person read all Vedas still they won’t be able to understand them enough unless their mind is pure with a meditation on Aum, without Aum one cannot even Imagine Liberation.

Yajurveda says.

(40.15) - Remember Aum meditate on it.

(40.17). - This Aum is Brahma.

Hence we must meditate on Aum

Other Branches of Sanatana Dharna Use Aum too...
