Importance of the Third Chapter of Bhagwat Gita. (Ch-3)
There lived a man named Jad who although was born as a Brahmin but lived and behaved as a businessman. He had all the evil vices. Once he traveled for business purposes towards the north. He was waylaid by some bandits, looted, and ultimately killed. Due to his evil habits, he became a demon. His son, unlike his father, was an honest person. He searched for his missing father all around. He inquired from several people about his father. At last, he himself started traveling to search for his father. In the course of his travel, he met his father's assistant who apprised him of the whole incident. So the son collected all the material for the Uttar Kriya and set forth to travel to Kashi. Fortunately, he stopped midway under the same tree where his father was killed. He performed his Sandhya puja and read the third chapter of the Gita. Just then there was a thundering echo of sound. It was his dead father being bought down in a divine chariot.
But before riding the divine chariot he saw his father being transformed from demon to saintly. He bowed before his father, who in turn blessed him. He quizzed his father for these strange happenings. The father then told him that the Punya of his son chanting the third chapter of Gita had destroyed his sins. The father Jad requested his son to continue reading the third chapter of Gita for his dead relatives who had been equally sinful and now rotting in hell. Saying this much he returned to Vishnu dhaam. As promised to his father, the son went to Vishnu temple every day and read the third chapter of the Gita.
As the Punya started accumulating a messenger from Vishnulok went to Yamlok to fetch the relatives. The Yamraj was intrigued but he obeyed Vishnu's order and also accompanied the messengers to Vishnulok to meet Vishnu. After paying his respects to Vishnu he wanted to know if he could be of any service to Vishnu. The Parmatma replied that he should keep carrying on his duties and disappeared. Yamraj too left for Yamlok.
Therefore the third chapter of Gita with 72 Shlokas is not only important to you but helps you to destroy the sins of your forefathers too.
